“I don’t care about the (country’s) problems. I didn’t steal a single euro, why should I pay?”…Christos

Christos is an elderly pensioner, not a young revolutionary.

I feel the same way.

What the world’s governments have done, bailing out the insolvent too big to fail companies, operating in the deficit world and incurring massive future debts is in effect taxation without representation, as I am not going to pay either.

I would rather quit working or join the black market and screw the government.

It is a matter of principle.  I work to provide for my family and myself and to contribute my share for a few social services, not all, as so many are questionable and serve only special interests.

The bail outs served only special interests as the Goldman Sachs/AIG relationships are starting to become known and the devious games played behind the scenes are coming to light.  General Motors was mismanaged as Ford proved it was possible to survive without massive government cash infusion.

In this respect I believe in the premise of the Boston Tea Party, revolting about taxation without representation.

In other words, you created this mess, you pay for it, leave me out of it.

Losing Right

In Faith, Inspiration, Life, Politics, Religion, Thoughts on February 10, 2010 at 2:09 am

Right is usually the opposite of wrong, unless you are referring to direction as in right turn or right side.

Sometimes moral issues are judged as being right or wrong.

Nowadays the line between right or wrong is blurred in so many areas of life.  The arguments for both, right being wrong and wrong being right, are often very compelling and they influence the actions and attitudes of many, at times polarizing society.

How is one sure what they contemplate is right or wrong or are the terms obsolete?

There are things I wouldn’t want me to be part of as I consider them “wrong”.  For example, I would not even think to have one of my children killed as a sacrifice to a God or an ideal.

There are some people who would consider sacrificing children for a God or ideal and consider it an honor.

If I was raised in the same manner as the person who would sacrifice, maybe I would sacrifice my children too.  Who knows?

There were and possibly still are societies on earth that practiced cannibalism.  To them there was nothing wrong with it.

We are a screwed up species aren’t we?

“When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist.”

Dom Helder Camara spoke those words and they are true.

With all the brainpower we have on this planet who have given us the ability to split atoms, read DNA and send men and women into space for prolonged periods of time, you would think we could come up with a system of governance and economics that will serve the poor as well as the wealthy and in-between.

Where everyone will be guaranteed the basics of life, food, clothing, shelter, water and those that wish to excel, be rewarded accordingly.

Where a corporation has no control except over its employees.

Where government is truly for the people and by the people.

Where deficit spending is not allowed.

Where Wall Street is no longer capable of wreaking the havoc that it has done, more than once.

It would be worthwhile to spend some money to come up with something that works and that servitude to economic masters is no longer the accepted way.

I am not recommending an end to capitalism, but recommending an initiative to reality.  There are more people on this planet than what we have good paying jobs for, that only guarantees social instability, poverty and hunger for millions.

We can do better than that, can we not?
