Man creating God for his own purposes is believable, but doesn’t fit somehow.
For example, if a despot wants control of people to do his or her bidding there are ways of accomplishing this without creating “God” and these other ways are much easier. Many have done this throughout history and are doing it now.
There are too many cultures, societies and races, some from remote areas almost untouched by civilization that believe in a monotheistic spiritual God.
With so many things to occupy a person’s mind on this planet, why would all these different entities invent a God for their own purpose?
There are activities such as sex, power, raising families, eating and such that would take the focus of inventing a “God” and relegating it to something that can be put off till another day.
Unless of course God is an integral part of life, not to be discovered or invented but is.
People may deny God, get angry with God or forget God.
Then if one is aware of death approaching, many cry out to God, even if they don’t believe in God.
Why is that?

Too scary thinking there is no meaning, no purpose, no reason for all of this to be. Even scarier thinking this is it – no after – dead as a doornail, without no explanation.
Also having a ‘God’ gives humans something to blame when shit leaves the fan.
Always been so, I suspect since sapiens separated themselves out from All.
The reason ‘God’ don’t make sense is because He was made in the image of his creation.

Man created God. Or that is what I believe. If there was no insecurity, no fear, no helplessness, there wouldnt have been God. After something great has been done, wee thank God… why?? probably because of the anxiety we had before the job was complete,…or because we are apprehensive of a similar situation sometime in the future. We need inspiration and confidence..and God is an ‘object’ in this endeavor.
