Human Beings aren’t the only species capable of compassion.

One of the stories about Elian Gonzales, the Cuban boy and lone survivor of a fateful journey by Cuban Nationals seeking asylum in the US, was the reason for  his surviving.

Elian’s mother died in the journey.  The boy reportedly said the dolphins saved him from drowning.

I believe it.

One of our dogs died after giving birth to puppies.

Even though the pups were being hand fed, it was not the same.  One of our other dogs, a pregnant mom took the puppies over and started nurturing them.

She wasn’t producing milk yet, but the pups were being fed anyway.  The step mom cleaned them and treated them as they were her own.   Last time I checked on them the pups were sleeping by her belly.

A little Yorkie male kept guard and basically fretted over all the goings on.

From my perspective it seemed as if they realized what happened and were stepping in to fill a need.  They probably didn’t think of it the way humans do but the instinct was there and it showed.

It humbles you a bit seeing these animals who are no match for the intellect and abilities of man kind doing what so many people wouldn’t consider doing for each other.
